Man Who Killed Intruder Arrested on Gun Charge

Authorities say a man who fatally shot an intruder inside his home now faces charges of illegally possessing the handgun he fired.

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports 36-year-old Christopher Bane was arrested Thursday on a felony charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Bane was convicted of felony possession of marijuana with intent to sell in March 2001. He told he wasn't aware he is a convicted felon.

Bane told deputies he Bane fatally shot 22-year-old Calvin Yoder early Tuesday after hearing glass break. He came face-to-face with Yoder as he tried to open his son's door and they exchanged gunfire. Bane wasn't hit.

Bane was released on $7,500 bail. It was unclear whether he's hired an attorney.
