Marlins' Stanton and Ozuna Share Player of the Week Award

Marlins outfielders Giancarlo Stanton and Marcell Ozuna were named co-Players of the Week on Monday

Miami Marlins outfielders Giancarlo Stanton and Marcell Ozuna were named the National League co-Players of the Week on Monday.

This was Stanton's third Player of the Week award of the season and it was Ozuna's second such honor. Both players have enjoyed tremendous seasons and they may each see some votes for Most Valuable Player. Ozuna has been more consistent, while Stanton has set franchise records.

Even though the Marlins were mathematically eliminated, the team is still playing hard each day. In six games against the New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks, Miami went 4-2 during the week. Arizona is headed to the playoffs, while New York will finish behind Miami in the N.L. East.

Stanton hit .348 with three home runs during the week. The slugger now has 57 on the season and remains within reach of 60. With three games at Coors Field in Colorado, Stanton could have some more history on the way. During the big week, Stanton also contributed 13 runs batted in.

Ozuna hit a robust .500 during the week with three home runs of his own. The outfielder had seven RBI and scored six runs of his own in the six games played. Overall this season, Ozuna has 36 home runs and has a slash line of .308/.374/.548.

The combination of Stanton and Ozuna gives Miami one of the more potent lineups in the game, especially when Dee Gordon gets on base ahead of them. It remains to be seen if both players will remain on the roster in 2018. With an ownership change coming, there may be a number of transactions made over the off-season.

The Marlins will begin a series with the Colorado Rockies on Monday at 8:40 p.m.
