Pride Fest Celebrates Equality

The Miami Beach Gay Pride weekend came to a close with a whole lot of music, spirit, and people decked out from head to toe.

"It goes to show the awareness, you know to embrace and to love one another," said event goer Giancarlo Lovo.

City of Miami Beach Police led the way in a personalized squad car and the caravan of floats and pride supporters followed. "It's been a great weekend and this is amazing," Lopez said. "I've never seen anything like this."

The NBC 6 team also came out in full force to greet viewers. 6 in the Mix Host Roxanne Vargas took the stage with Miss Miami Beach Gay Pride 2013 to announce the participating LGBT groups and allies.

Salomon Barros said participating in the event has been a great learning experience for him.

"I'm straight, but I'm an actor, and i'll be playing a gay character in a play," Barros said. "It's been very important for me because I've learned so much about the gay community. We're all equal."

Many in the LGBT community say there's even more reason to celebrate this year. In January, same-sex marriage became legally recognized in Florida.

"It's just nice to feel a part of the community and growth and the sense of coming together," Lovo said.
