Miami-Dade Police Officer Involved in Accident With Minivan: Cops

Investigators said it appears the other driver may have been driving under the influence

The driver of a minivan, who investigators say may have been driving under the influence, crashed into a police officer’s vehicle Saturday morning.

The accident occurred on southwest 117th Avenue and 176th Street just before 6 a.m. Miami-Dade Police said the driver of a Toyota Sienna lost control of the van, crossed the median and crashed into the police car.

The driver of the minivan was ejected from the vehicle and transported to Kendall Regional Hospital with life threatening injuries, police said.

The Miami-Dade police officer, who was driving a marked vehicle, sustained a leg injury and is in stable condition.

Investigators said it appears the driver of the Sienna may have been driving under the influence. Neither person involved was identified.
