Miami Homeless Shelters Prepare Extra Beds for Cold Weather

The expected cold snap in South Florida is prompting some organizations to open their doors to the homeless.

Miami Rescue Mission and Broward Outreach Centers say they are expecting more than 100 homeless to seek shelter in the next few days as the temperatures are expected to drop into the 40s with wind in excess of 15 miles per hour.

Broward County issued a cold weather advisory for Tuesday and Wednesday and are advising homeless people to report to their three shelters no later than 6:30 p.m.

The three locations, at 100 W. Atlantic Boulevard, 1445 West Broward Boulevard and 2056 Scott Street, opened Monday and will continue overnight shelter until the cold weather has passed.

Officials are asking the public to donate blankets, jackets, coats and socks.
