Miami Realtor Drives Elderly Customer to New Jersey

A Miami realtor went above and beyond for an elderly customer, giving her a ride all the way to New Jersey after selling her home for her.

Lucia Borges, who is in her late 70s, was admitted to a South Florida rehabilitation facility last month after suffering a stroke in January.

Borges' daughter, Ivelise Alvarez, hired Re/Max's Anthony DeNito to sell Borges' Kendale Lakes home, which he did in a matter of hours.

But as Alvarez was making arrangements for her relocation to New Jersey, Borges' insurance benefits maxed out and she was faced with eviction. Her doctors had also forbid her to fly, complicating matters.

DeNito, who had regularly visited Borges at the facility, volunteered to drive Borges to New Jersey, an 18-hour trip. Borges' daughter and granddaughter were able to fly to Miami and joined DeNito for the drive.

The group left the facility in Miami on Aug. 17 and DeNito drove through the night while his passengers slept, until they arrived the next day. DeNito then flew home to Miami.

“While Lucia was in that facility with no family nearby, I told her that I would be her family, because that’s how I would want to be treated and how I was raised,” said DeNito, a former U.S. Marine. “When she was forced to leave, there was really no choice in offering to make the drive; I just did what anyone else would do, and was genuinely happy to help out. Like all good deeds, the true reward comes from the act itself.”
