Miramar Middle School Was Locked Down After 2 Students Were Found With BB Gun: Principal

Glades Middle School in Miramar was put on lockdown Wednesday after two students were found possessing a BB gun, the school district said Thursday.

Some students reported seeing another student with a weapon on campus at 16700 Southwest 48th Court, and the two students who had the gun were found and taken into custody by law enforcement, Principal Krista Herrera said in a letter to parents.

The students face school disciplinary measures that could include expulsion, Herrera said in her note. She wrote it Wednesday, and the school district provided it to NBC 6 on Thursday.

No one was injured, and the lockdown was subsequently lifted, Herrera said.

The principal told parents that the school takes the safety and security of their children very seriously.

“In this instance, it was the quick thinking of our students who came forward and reported what they had seen,” Herrera wrote.
