Murdered Fort Lauderdale Nurse “Was a Good Lady,” Neighbors Say

The body of Hyacinth Tucker was found at 424 NW 15th Terrace at about 7:45 a.m. on Sunday

Fort Lauderdale Police are offering $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect or suspects who killed Hyacinth Tucker, a 61-year-old home care nurse, whose body was found on New Year’s Day in the apartment of the elderly man she worked for.

He was in the next room when a friend found Tucker’s body at 424 NW 15th Terrace at about 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, but police said he is not a suspect.

By all accounts, neighbors said Tucker – who came to the U.S. from Jamaica in the 1990s – was a good person.

“She used to bring me mangos and stuff,” said Annie Mae Guerin, a grandmother who lives three doors away and said she saw Tucker shortly before her murder. “She was a good lady. She was alright.”

Family members said they spoke with Tucker on the phone the day before someone killed her.

Herman Brown, who lives two doors away, said Tucker “was a good lady and she didn’t mess with nobody.”

Police urge anyone with information about her murder to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.

“Whoever did it you need to come forward,” Brown said. “Man, you took somebody mama life.”
