Music Star, South Florida Native Flo Rida Delivers Message of Hope to South Florida Rehab Center

Carol City native and international music star Flo Rida spent Tuesday performing for a group of young people fighting drug and alcohol addictions – while sharing the message of perseverance and what the MusiCares foundation is about.

"MusiCares has a platform where they support the artist in every way and I’m an artist who was struggling before,” said the star, whose real name is Tramar Dillard. "If this was around, it would've helped advance me.”

This crowd is part of Recovery Unplugged - a treatment center in Fort Lauderdale. One of its founding directors is Richie Supa a former songwriter and guitarist who has worked with Aerosmith.

"I was an addict in the 70's and 80's, so when I met some of my partners who had the same vision to open a treatment center with music therapy as the core of our treatment, I jumped at the moment,” said Supa.

Inspired by his music career, Supa opened the South Florida treatment center with weekly meetings, where stars can come in and give those struggling hope

“I never gave up no matter how much money in my pockets or how much food I had on the table and I hope that's what they get from me coming out and speaking today,” said Dillard.
