Couple Charged with Child Sex Trafficking

Man and woman accused of running house of underage prostitution in Oakland Park

An Oakland Park couple was arrested after police say they operated a child sex trafficking ring out of their home.

An FBI task force took James Mozie, 34, and his girlfriend Laschell Harris, 37, into custody Saturday, charging them with operating the ring out of their home in the 2100 block of Northwest 29th Street, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

Agents found two 17-year-old girls, two women, and 12 men in the establishment known as the "Boom Boom Room," according to authorities.

They also found timers, boxes of condoms, several hundred dollars in cash and job applications.

An investigation began in March when Broward County Crime Stoppers received a tip about minor girls working as prostitutes at the home, according to the federal criminal complaint.

Federal agents interviewed a 16-year-old victim who said she participated in selling her body at the home.

The teenager explained that she smoked marijuana that she believes was laced with something else, then had sex with two men and her 14-year-old cousin. She also said she had sex with Mozie, who said it was part of her orientation.

The couple paid her $240 for the night, 70 percent of her earnings, the Sun-Sentinel reported. The girl also said that she saw two female classmates of hers at the home.

Timers were allegedly given to men who had paid for sex. The applications allegedly asked potential prostitutes their willingness to perform sex acts.

Mozie and Harris were in the Broward County Jail Thursday, with detention hearings in federal court set for May 25. If found guilty of the child trafficking charge, both could face 10 years to life in prison.

It was unknown whether either has attorneys.
