Over three dozen migrants from Cuba made it to America thanks to the help of one boater in the Florida Keys.
The 39 men, women and children landed on the ocean side of Lower Sugarloaf Key, about 20 miles east of Key West, around 6:15 PM. Crews from Monroe Country Fire Rescue responded to calls of their arrival.
The group was reportedly dropped off by a boat that left the scene shortly after they had all touched shore. Four of the migrants, including one pregnant woman and a 4-year-old girl, were taken to the hospital for treatment after experiencing dehydration.
The rest of the migrants were transferred to U.S. Border Patrol agents and will now wait to be processed to stay in the United States under the “wet foot, dry foot” policy regarding those who flee from Cuba.
