Panthers Begin Road Trip With Loss in Pittsburgh

The Panthers opened a four-game road trip with a 3-2 loss in Pittsburgh on Tuesday

The Florida Panthers started a road trip the wrong way with a 3-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday.

The Panthers opened up a two-goal lead in the second period, before Pittsburgh scored three straight times. The loss was reminiscent of one Florida suffered during last season against the New York Islanders. In that one, the Panthers also saw a lead slip away with multiple unanswered goals.

Florida fell to 3-2-1 on the season with the loss and remained at seven points. With most of their games thus far at home, this game also represented the second road loss of the season for the Panthers. Florida will play its next three games away from home as well.

With the first period winding down, Reilly Smith broke up a scoreless tie with a goal at the 18:02 mark. The goal came during a Florida power play and had assists on it from Michael Matheson and Colton Sceviour. The score was the first goal of the year for Smith.

Mark Pysyk doubled Florida's lead to two at the 6:08 mark of the second period. The goal was the first of the season for Pysyk and he got a helping hand from Shane Harper and Jonathan Marchessault.

James Reimer was in the net for Florida and was cruising until the aforementioned onslaught of goals. Reimer ended up saving 19 of the 22 attempts he had.

The Panthers will take a day off before their next game in Toronto on Thursday.
