Panthers Blow Two-Goal Lead in Loss to Hurricanes

The Panthers had a 2-0 lead before the Hurricanes scored three fast goals to win on Sunday

The Florida Panthers had a two-goal lead wiped away in a 3-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday.

Florida scored twice in the opening period, but allowed three goals to Carolina in the second period. The Hurricanes scored the three goals in a span of just over three minutes. With the loss, Florida is now 4-6-1 on the road this year and 11-10-1 overall.

Florida started to build the early lead with a goal from Jonathan Marchessault. The tenth goal of the season for Marchessault increased his team lead and came with assists from Jaromir Jagr and Aleksander Barkov. The goal found the back of the net during a Florida power play.

Around five minutes later, Aaron Ekblad added his sixth goal of the season with an assist from Aleksander Barkov. That goal which gave Florida a 2-0 lead would be the last of the day for the Panthers.

Starting at the 5:21 mark of the next period, Carolina chipped away at Florida's lead. When the game clock hit 8:49, the Hurricanes had the lead and would never look back. The eventual game-winning goal came during a power play for the Hurricanes.

James Reimer took the loss for the Panthers due to that rough second period. Overall the goalie has 24 saves on his 27 attempts.

Florida's road trip will continue on Tuesday with a game in Chicago against the Blackhawks.
