Panthers’ Jagr Makes History in Loss

The Florida Panthers lost to the Boston Bruins 5-4 in overtime on Monday in a game that featured Jaromir Jagr's 1851st career point.

A historic moment took place at the 16:48 mark of the first period when Jagr assisted on Florida's first goal of the day. The score was Aleksander Barkov 20th of the season and it was with the big assist from Jagr. That point moved Jagr into sole possession of third place on the NHL All-Time points list ahead of Gordie Howe.

The loss was Florida's third straight overall, but the team did pick up a point and now has 81. Due to the fact, Boston was only one-point back of Florida entering the day, the Panthers and Bruins are now tied for second and third place in the division. The Detroit Red Wings sit in fourth place within striking distance.

Boston jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 12 minutes of play which stunned the fans and players alike. Entering the game with losses in four of its last five games, Florida was in need of a win to turn its fortunes around.

The Bruins would score again to make it a 4-1 game before Florida answered back. Early into the second period, new Panther Jiri Hudler put home his 11th goal of the season. Hudler's goal which had assists from Jonathan Huberdeau and Erik Gudbranson on it cut the deficit back to two goals.

A few minutes later during a power play, Jussi Jokinen added a goal of his own to make it a one-goal game. Reilly Smith and Vincent Trocheck picked up assists on Jokinen's 12th goal of the season.

Hudler would tie the game up with his second goal of the game and 12th of the season of the 15:17 mark of the third period. Alex Petrovic and Nick Bjugstad assisted on the score which completed a comeback from a three-goal deficit and forced overtime. Boston would go on to score in the overtime period with a minute remaining.
