Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash in Opa-locka late Wednesday night that killed an 84-year-old man.
The incident happened around 11 p.m. in the area of Northwest 135th Street and 27th Avenue as the victim was trying to cross the street, Miami-Dade Police said.
Police said the driver struck the pedestrian and drove about a mile down the road, then stopped and abandoned the SUV and fled the scene on foot.
The victim was later identified as 84-year-old David Contreras.
The vehicle, a gold Infinity QX56, was found at 100 Sabur Lane with front end damage.
Surveillance video from a nearby business showed the driver get out and get back in the SUV and drive off.
