Plantation Bank Robbery Suspect In Custody

Police said the suspect fled the bank into an apartment complex

A man suspected to have robbed a Plantation bank Monday was located and taken into custody, Plantation police Sgt. Al Butler said.

The man, who police say robbed the BB&T Bank on 450 North Pine Island Road, produced a handgun and made off with money. Authorities said the man supposedly ran across the street into an apartment complex.

Police who arrived on scene set up a perimeter, locking down nearby streets and gas stations.

“One of our sergeants shut off the exit to the gas station and was checking each car individually when he came into contact with the person that fit the description,” Butler said. “One thing led to another and he ended up being positively identified by the bank personnel and the witness.”

It was unknown how much money was taken, but authorities believe the money will be recovered.

“We are pretty certain something is in the vehicle,” Butler said.

The Plantation emergency medical rescue also arrived at the bank and was seen wheeling a patient from the bank on a gurney.
