No Joker: Clown Protester Climbs Tree

Woman arrested after she climbs tree in clown makeup

Talk about tears of a clown.

A woman sporting "sad clown makeup" was arrested Friday after she climbed a tree at Palm Beach Gardens City Hall to protest cutting down trees.

Ana Rodriguez called the Palm Beach Post early Friday to announce she'd be pulling off the stunt to protest the city council's decision a year ago to allow development of a nearby forest for a Scripps Research lab.

Holding a sign saying "Dead Forests are no joke," Rodriguez climbed up the tree and sat on a limb until firefighters used a ladder to take her down.

She was taken away in handcuffs and will likely face charges.

Rodriguez is a member of Everglades Earth First!, an environmental group that has been fighting the Scripps plan. Two members of Earth First! were arrested last week for trespassing during protests.

"We wanted to send a message we're still fighting the (Scripps Florida) plan," Panagioti Tsolkas, with Earth First!, told the Post.
