Two nurses held hostage inside a Pompano Beach apartment complex have been freed as deputies and SWAT team took the 87-year-old man they say was behind the situation into custody.
BSO officials say the man with an unknown medical condition took two nurses hostage overnight inside the Coast Village South complex at 711 N. Riverside Drive. One of the nurses had been released early Monday morning, while the other was released later in the day.
Officials say the man surrendered to police shortly before noon and he was taken to an area hospital. Both nurses are reportedly okay, but have not released any additional information.
