Satanic Temple Approved for Florida Capitol Holiday Display

A Satanic Temple is set to accompany nativity scenes and other holiday decorations inside Florida's Capitol in Tallahassee this year.

The Florida Department of Management Services has approved the temple as one of the displays in the first-floor rotunda of the Capitol, Florida News Service reported.

Two other displays, including one that celebrates Festivus, the fictional holiday from the sitcom "Seinfeld," are pending final approval.

The temple was rejected a year ago after the department called it "grossly offensive." It features a banner reading "Happy holidays from the Satanic Temple" atop a diorama of an angel falling into hell.

Satanic Temple spokesman Lucien Greaves said he thinks his attorneys helped get the display approved this year.

"We hope that, this holiday season, everybody can put their religious differences aside and respect that the celebratory spirit of responsible hedonism is available to all," Greaves said in an email.
