A scuba diver has planned a three-day dive near Lauderdale-by-the-Sea's artificial reef to set a record, according to The South Florida Sun Sentinel.

Allen Sherrod wants to top the current Guinness World Record for a saltwater dive. He previously set a five-day record for the longest freshwater dive, the Sentinel reports.

"We have a bad economy," he said in an explanation to the Sentinel. "I didn't have anything else to do."

Sherrod plans to begin his dive at 8 a.m. on Oct. 25. According to the Sentinel, Sherrod's event will raise money to protect the reef, and divers and snorklers can attend.
