Hernandez Case Suspect Found in Miramar

Police say he's wanted for accessory after the murder of Odin Lloyd

A man authorities sought in connection with the killing of Odin Lloyd last week was booked into the Broward County Main Jail Friday night.

Ernest Wallace, 41, is now being held at the jail, online Broward Sheriff's Office records showed, after he turned himself in to Miramar Police on Friday afternoon.

Officer Maria Strickland said earlier Friday that Wallace would be booked through the BSO on a warrant for accessory after the fact and would be subsequently extradited.

Wallace turned himself in to police at 1:20 p.m. without incident, and his attorney faxed in a letter to police saying he was invoking his right to counsel, Strickland said. Massachusetts investigators were in Miramar when he turned himself in because the two agencies had been working on the case together for several days.

Two other people have been arrested in the case, including former New England Patriot and Bristol, Conn. native Aaron Hernandez, who has been charged with murder in the case.

Authorities issued an alert and wanted poster for Wallace on Thursday and said he was considered armed and dangerous. On Friday, police issued a new photo and wanted poster that mentioned special attention to Connecticut, Georgia, Florida and Massachusetts.

Minutes later, Massachusetts State Police said via Twitter that he had been captured in Miramar.

Police said Wallace was staying with his mother in her Miramar house.

Wallace told police that he saw himself on the news and turned himself in because he didn't know what was going on, Strickland said. He saw his name and he knew he had a warrant, she said.

Police say he's wanted for accessory after the murder of Lloyd, 27, a semi-professional football, near Hernandez's Massachusetts home.

Prosecutors said Lloyd died in an execution-style killing.

Hernandez was arrested on Wednesday and the Patriots released him that day. On Thursday, he was denied bail and his lawyer said he wants to clear his name.

North Attleboro Police confirm that Wallace's last known address is 114 Lake Ave. in Bristol, a house listed as the home of Hernandez's uncle. Police searched the home on Wednesday.

State police had been looking for a silver or gray 2012 Chrysler 300 with Rhode Island license plates 451-375 that Wallace was seen driving.

North Attleboro Police said the car was found, but there was no sign of Wallace. Police have not said where the car was found.

Another man, Carlos Ortiz, was arrested on Wednesday in Hernandez's hometown of Bristol as part of the investigation. He was extradited from Connecticut to Massachusetts on Friday.
