1 Teen Dead, 1 Injured in Separate Shootings in Northwest Miami-Dade

Police are investigating a pair of shootings in northwest Miami-Dade Wednesday, both involving teens.

One of the shootings was reported in the 1400 block of Northwest 71st Street near 14th Avenue. Miami-Dade Police said the 17-year-old victim was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, but died from his injuries.

"This individual was unresponsive. Paramedics quickly began lifesaving efforts, trying to get him to the hospital as soon as possible," police said.

Police said the victim was walking in the area when he was approached by a gunman on foot and then shot.

Just blocks away, there was another shooting in the 7500 block of Northwest 19th Avenue. 16-year-old Dequan Gordon was shot in the leg, Miami-Dade Police said. The teen was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

Police said the teen was standing outside a home when he and a friend were approached by a male gunman, also on foot. They believe the suspect took off in a red Toyota Camry that was waiting for him, and continued to fire more shots as he fled.

Investigators are looking into whether the shootings are connected.

"We have seen a number of shootings recently in Dade County involving juveniles. Our department is out there every day. We are requesting the community, if you have seen anything to call us," said Det. Robin Pinkard.
