Tolls Suspended, Plazas Closed in Impacted Areas of Florida

No tolls will be collected from drivers in areas of the state being impacted by Hurricane Matthew.

Drivers will not be charged tolls on the following roadways:

  • Florida Turnpike (entire length)
  • Alligator Alley
  • Miami-Dade Expressway Authority
  • Central Florida Expressway Authority

Earlier today, Governor Rick Scott had directed the Department of Transportation to not collect tolls in counties with evacuation orders. These latest roadways are an expansion of that earlier order.

The Miami-Dade Expressway Authority suspended collecting tolls as of 8pm Wednesday.

“The safety of motorist throughout Miami-Dade County is MDX’s primary concern. We will continue to monitor the approaching storm and coordinate any ongoing efforts through the state emergency management staff,” said Louis Martinez, Chairman of MDX’s Board of Directors in a statement released Wednesday.

MDX roads include SR 836/ Dolphin Expressway, SR 874/ Don Shula Expressway, SR 924/ Gratigny Parkway, SR 112/ Airport Expressway and SR 878/ Snapper Creek Expressway.

Authorities have also begun the closure of several Florida Turnpike service plaza as Hurricane makes its way up the eastcoast.

Turnpike plazas will cease operation at the following locations and times:

  • Snapper Creek at noon
  • Lake Worth/West Palm Beach at 1:00 pm
  • Fort Pierce/Port St. Lucie at 2:30 pm
  • Fort Drum 4:00 pm
  • Canoe Creek at 10 pm
  • Turkey Lake at 10 pm
  • Okahumpka at TBA
