South Florida

Tourism Still Hot Despite Cooler Weather

South Floridians may have been feeling quite a chill over the last 24 hours, but it’s not bothering tourists who are here to bask in the sunshine.

“I can take it anytime,” said Victor Assaraf, who is from Quebec. “Even though it’s cool for the Floridians, for us Montrealers, after two snow storms and minus I don’t know what; anything is beautiful.”

“We got dumped on, a couple of feet of snow yesterday,” said Alex Sutherland of New York. “We saw some pictures on social media back home and we’re glad to be down here because the weather’s beautiful. We’re having a great time.”

Temperatures have started to rebound on Thursday after chilly air descended on the area on Tuesday and Wednesday. And while the air is still cool, the business along Fort Lauderdale Beach and other areas is red hot with items from coffee to ice cream all selling well.

Still, the heaters were out for the locals who still find the weather a little too cool for comfort. But tourists said the weather was perfect.

“Today is warm enough to swim,” said Lisa Wittich of New Jersey.

“It’s beautiful. It’s better than there,” Denise Marino said of her hometown of Chicago.

And yes, the tourists still get a kick out of seeing South Florida bundle up when the temperatures drop.

“Everyone else has jackets; they’re ready to go for winter,” Sutherland said. “We’re walking around shirtless.”
