Two Men Rescued at Sea: Coast Guard

The Coast Guard rescued two men from their overturned boat in Biscayne Bay.

The Coast Guard rescued two men from their capsized boat in Biscayne Bay Sunday.

According to the Coast Guard Sector Miami, watchstanders received a relay distress call around 2 a.m. this morning from two men saying they were clinging from an overturned 28-foot sailing boat. They reported they were about a half-mile off Black Point Marine inside Biscayne Bay.

The Coast Guard Station launched a search in the nearby area with Florida Fish and Wildife Conservation Commsission, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, and National Park Service crews.

The helicopter used in the search party found the capsized vessel at about 3:38 a.m. The crew recovered Alberto Leon-Corado and Alejandro Suarez from Homestead.

Leon-Corado and Suarez were safely transported with no medical concerns.

The Coast Guard encourages boaters to always file a float plan, have a VHF-FM radio and electronic radio beqacon on hand, remain vigilant and respect safety and security zones while on the water.
