Two Volusia County Swimmers Nipped By Sharks: AP

There have been six shark bites in the waters off Volusia County this year

Authorities say two swimmers are recovering after being nipped by sharks in the ocean off central Florida.

Volusia County Beach Patrol Capt. Tammy Marris says a 58-year-old Orlando woman in 3 feet of water suffered a small puncture wound to her left ankle Sunday afternoon. The woman drove herself to a hospital.

Pregnant Sea Turtle in Grave Condition at Hospital

Marris tells The Daytona Beach News-Journal that an 8-year-old Deltona girl was bitten a couple hours later while she was boogie-boarding in shallow water. The girl suffered minor puncture wounds to her calf and hand. Her parents took her to a hospital.

There have been six shark bites in the waters off Volusia County this year. All the bites have been minor.
