Police arrested a 58-year-old woman after an overnight standoff in Mountain View. Her boyfriend was found dead with blunt force trauma to the head, according to investigators. NBC 7's Sherene Tagharobi reports.
A woman suspected of killing her boyfriend and leaving his body in a driveway was arrested by police after a 7-hour standoff overnight in San Diego’s Mountain View area.
Georgette Cramer Cervantes, 58, was taken into custody around 4:15 a.m. Thursday at a home in the 3700-block of Franklin Avenue.
On Wednesday night, at around 9:20 p.m., police were called to the area to investigate a report of a man down in the driveway of a residence on Franklin Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found a man in his 50s lying unresponsive in the driveway, suffering from blunt force trauma to his upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation led police to suspect that Cervantes was involved in the man’s death. She had been dating the victim, police said.
When officers tried to make contact with Cervantes at the home, she refused. At one point, police say she even opened the door to the residence, but then abruptly closed it.
At this point, the overnight standoff began. Police called for backup assistance from SWAT and a negotiations team. Seven hours later, Cervantes was taken into custody.
SDPD Lt. Mike Hastings said the standoff was long and tense, but was thankful that no one else was injured in the ordeal.
“You have a suspect that, in essence, isn’t cooperating with your commands. And so, with that, we always try to make plans to make sure that people are taken into custody safely,” Lt. Hastings explained.
Police said Cervantes will be booked into jail and charged with homicide. She’ll likely appear in court early next week.
Meanwhile, the victim’s name has not yet been released. The medical examiner’s office will identify the man and determine his official cause of death at a later time.
The homicide investigation is ongoing. Police said witnesses and physical evidence point to Cervantes as their suspect, however the motive behind the killing has not yet been determined.
Neighbors told NBC 7 that the romantic relationship between the victim and suspect was tumultuous.
