The fight against Zika will continue Monday across South Florida with spraying scheduled in both Miami-Dade and Broward – while the fight for funding to combat the virus still continues in Washington, D.C.

Crews in Miami Beach continue spraying the transmission zone between 8th Street and 28th Street, using ground spraying after aerial crews dropped pesticide on the area both Friday and Sunday.

Broward County crews took to the air for their spraying efforts early Monday morning, dropping pesticide on five cities (Tamarac, Margate, Pembroke Pines, Hollywood and Hallandale Beach) and several unincorporated areas. Those sprayings are being done as a precautionary measure, as the virus has not been detected yet.

At the same time, South Florida politicians on both sides of the aisle are continuing to plead for federal funding to help in the fight. U.S. Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Miami) held a news conference Sunday urging both the House and Senate to stop political arguing and approve help for the area.
