Marlins to Open Spring Training Schedule Against Hurricanes

The Marlins will take on the Miami Hurricanes on March 1 to begin their spring training schedule

The Miami Marlins released their 2016 spring training schedule on Tuesday which features an exhibition opener against the Miami Hurricanes.

The Marlins and Hurricanes playing at Roger Dean Stadium has become somewhat of a tradition. This past March, the Marlins beat the Hurricanes 7-1 on the same field. That game was followed by an off-day and then a game against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Marlins will have the same plan this time around as well.

After facing UM on March 1, the Marlins will take on the Cardinals on the 3rd. St. Louis and Miami share the stadium and will see one another often in March. In all, the Marlins will play the Cardinals seven times and will be considered the home team three times. The first time they face each other, the Cardinals will don the home colors.

Besides the plethora of games against the Cards, the Marlins will also host the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. These games are often well attended despite being part of the exhibition schedule. Miami will also travel to Boston's spring complex in Fort Myers.

The Marlins will play 19 games at Roger Dean Stadium total which includes the aforementioned four road games against St Louis. Visiting Jupiter in addition to the Yankees and Red Sox will be the New York Mets, Washington Nationals, Atlanta Braves, Detroit Tigers, and Minnesota Twins.

The spring schedule will come to a close with an afternoon tilt against the Cardinals on March 30. The Marlins will play two night games during the schedule which is pretty standard for the Grapefruit League.

Before the games begin, the Marlins will need to report and work out at Roger Dean Stadium. Pitchers and catchers will report on Feb. 19 before the rest of the squad joins them on the 22nd.
