Red-Hot Marlins Take Down Nats

The Marlins continued a recent string of hot play with a win over the Nationals on Thursday

The Miami Marlins have been one of the best teams in baseball this month and continued that with a 6-4 win over the Washington Nationals on Thursday.

Miami has now won seven of its last nine games and has played against teams in contention. Overall in September the Marlins are 11-4, and have been playing hard despite their place in the standings. Miami has shown an ability to fight back when it falls behind, and has been solid on both sides of the ball.

A big reason that the Marlins continue to win lately, is the bat of Justin Bour. the hulking first baseman hit another home run in this game. It was the second blast in as many days for Bour, and his 18th of the season. With Giancarlo Stanton unavailable, Bour has been tasked with being Miami's main source of power.

Martin Prado has been hot for Miami as of late as well, and the third baseman also went deep on Thursday. Prado now has nine home runs to go along with 56 runs batted in. The veteran has lifted his average to .287, and has been a consistent source of production all season long.

Jarred Cosart looked sharp in his time on the mound while picking up his second win of the year. Cosart went six innings and only allowed two runs on three hits. The right-hander has battled injuries this season, but has strung together some impressive performances. Cosart should find himself in the rotation to begin the 2016 season.

A.J. Ramos picked up a four-out save to give him 28 saves on the year. The closer was forced to enter in the eighth inning when Bryan Morris found himself in trouble.

Miami will try to make it four wins in a row when it sends Jose Fernandez to the mound on Friday.
