Potbellies might be the new fashion statement for the fellas.

Before you whip out the old Ab Roller, you might want to rethink having abs of steel.

Instead, the type of six pack you should be aiming for is the one that will make your belly bulge.

According to a recent New York Times article, being a guy with a potbelly in Brooklyn is suddenly hip.

“Brooklyn cool has been a pair of shorts cut at knickers length, a V-neck Hanes T-shirt, a pair of generic slip-on sneakers and a
straw fedora,” wrote New York Times author Guy Trebay. “This year an unexpected element has been added to the look, and that is a burgeoning potbelly one might term the Ralph Kramden.”

In Miami, this new big belly trend might be the next thing.

Kendall resident Annette Diaz, 31, said she thinks potbellies are cute and is marrying a guy who has one.

“It’s real. It shows that they’re not so into themselves,” said Diaz. "It’s also like having a big teddy bear… you feel safe and warm when you hug them.”

Miami Beach homeowner Marchell Salgado agreed.

"Potbellies are fine with me as long as they don't come from too much beer," she said.

On the other hand, Kelly Obeso, 29, said fat chance to the new look

“I cannot believe that people think that having a potbelly is fashionable,” said Obeso, a Coral Gables resident. “It is a testament to the United State's twisted view on health. One thing is to not be in shape but still try to maintain some semblance of healthiness through your diet and another is to applaud being overweight by calling it fashionable.

In West Miami, Ramon Branger, 35, was surprised that his paunch was suddenly in vogue.

"I think the idea of a pot belly being hip is pretty hilarious. I guess at the end of the day, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but thinking of a potbelly as hip is rather odd. It’s not a haircut, it’s being out of shape.”
