8/27: Tonight's a Maniac, Maniac

Sharks, legwarmers, and Mr.Green

SHE'S A MANIAC: "Flashdance," everyone's favorite "welder by day, dancer by night" movie, will be showing at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts for $10. As an added bonus, happy hour at the theater starts at 6:00 p.m., with $3 beers and $5 Captain Morgan rum cocktails, during which guests can enter their names for a raffle with prizes provided by local merchants. Even better, guests will be invited after the flick to a dance party with DJ Pauer spinning, plus a chance to compete for prizes including "Best '80s Dressed" and "Best Dancers." For more information, call the Gusman Center box office at 305-372-0925. Movie starts at 7 P.M.

34 YEARS LATER: You'd think "Jaws" wouldn't be so scary so many years after its original release, but SURPRISE! The famous great white is back in a movie screening at Florida International University's Wolfsonian Museum for the "recession concession" price of $10. Heck, it's FREE for members and students. So come out and watch as Richard Dreyfuss and Roy Scheider team up to catch the oh-so-famous man-eater. For more information email lydia@thewolf.fiu.edu or call 305.535.2644. 7 P.M.

COMEDY FOR ALL AGES: A man in his 80s + a man in his 20s + unlikely, yet destined pairing = theatrical gold. "Visiting Mr. Green" is a bittersweet comedy that teaches us about wisdom and folly at any age, and that friendship comes in the most unlikely package. Showing at the Colony Theater. 8 P.M.
