Miami Gardens Police Honor Boy Who Saved Grandmother From Fire

The Miami Gardens Police Department honored an 8-year-old boy for his heroic actions after he saved his grandmother last week from their burning home.

Armon Myers was the only one awake when the flames erupted and spread throughout the townhouse on NW 38th Place. He tried to alert his sleeping grandmother, who wouldn't wake up, so he dragged her down the stairs.

Armon's actions earned him a Junior Hero Award from the department on Tuesday.

"It's really cool," Armon said. "I appreciate it."

A veteran lieutenant from Miami Fire Rescue was also honored by the department for making sure the family made it out of the fire safely. He was also able to make sure Armon's grandmother was able to save one very important thing -- her mother's ashes.

The fire killed the family's cat and destroyed their belongings, but no one was hurt.
