South Beach Museum Makes Fashion and Shopping Fun

The Wolfsonian gives fashionistas the perfect reason to visit

A trip to the museum to see a fashion related exhibition sounds like the perfect weekend excursion to gather up the girlfriends and get some culture.

But, throwing a little shopping into the mix -- now that’s a must-trip.

At South Beach’s Wolfsonian, that is exactly what’s going on with their "Beauty on the Beach" event.

Aside from getting to see a flashback of swimwear from the days of yore (including suits worn by Marilyn Monroe and Princess Diana) to bikinis from the present day, there’s also a fab selection of beach gear at the museum’s hidden shopping gem: the Dynamo Museum Shop.

For the fashionista, there is everything from adorable Issey Miyake beach totes and scarves to flip-flops adorned with fish and stylish bucket hats.

Those looking for gadgets and entertainment can nab brightly hued Lexon portable radios, Frisbees, books like "Adult Mad Libs Spring Break" or DVDs featuring old time faves like "Gidget" and "Jaws."

There are also trinkets for your little ones such as a sand play set and picture books like "Buzzy’s Big Beach Book."

What’s even cooler about the shop is that it's part cafe. Sandwiches, salads, beers and wine are all on the menu, so you can kick back after you’re done shopping.

Strapped for cash? Don't worry, the museum is offering a free photography installation in conjunction with the event called "Sun Stroke Stimulus," which features photographs of sun worshippers on South Beach.

Expect to see chiseled fellas, glam bikini-clad beauties and an old dude who shouldn’t be wearing a thong.
