Marathon man beat brother in dispute over woman: Authorities

A Marathon man is facing assault and battery charges after he forced his way into a home and beat up his brother in a dispute over a woman, authorities said Monday.

Francis Dyer, 37, was arrested Sunday afternoon after the love triangle dispute at a home on 95th Street, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said deputies were responding to reports of a fight at the home when they spotted Dyer walking away from the scene.

When deputies got to the home, they found Dyer's brother with injuries to his face and the woman with bruises she said were a result of the altercation, authorities said.

The woman told deputies she used to live with Dyer but had recently left him and started dating his brother.

Dyer's brother and the woman said Dyer forced his way into the house and started the fight, telling his brother he was going to kill him. When the woman picked up a phone and said she'd call the police if Dyer didn't stop, Dyer threatened to kill her and she put the phone down, authorities said.

The brother and woman said Dyer started throwing things and broke a window, and caused considerable damage to the house, authorities said.

Dyer was arrested and charged with burglary, criminal mischief, assault and 2 counts of battery. He was booked into jail where he again became violent, kicking and banging on a cell door and causing an estimated $2,000 in damage, authorities said.

He was being held without bond Monday and more charges are pending against him. It was unknown whether he has an attorney.
