Man in Critical Condition After He's Pulled From Sunrise Home Fire

Rescuers pull man from fire at home on Northwest 107th Avenue

A man is in critical condition after rescuers pulled him from his burning Sunrise home Wednesday morning.

Four people were inside when the fire broke out at the home in the 2200 block of Northwest 107th Avenue, officials said.

"They fought hard," Fire Division Chief Jim Dixon said of crews who battled past flames to reach the unconscious victim.

He had "no pulse" when they reached him, Dixon said, noting the unidentified man was taken to West Side Regional Hospital. Sunrise Police said the man was transferred to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

According to firefighters, about five people live in the home, including two children, two adults, and an elderly relative.

The fire scorched a bedroom and damaged the rest of the house, Dixon said. Firefighters put an "unsafe structure" sign on the front door and the cause of the fire is being investigated.

"It's scary," said Gaby Awada, who lives down the block. She says the children who live in the home are elementary school-age.
