Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado Sworn in for Second Term

The swearing in took place Friday at noon.

    Tomas Regalado was leading the Miami mayoral race and Philip Levine was ahead in Miami Beach with almost all of the precincts reporting. With 34 of 36 precincts reporting in Miami Beach, Philip Levine had received 50.47 percent of the vote. He needs to get more than 50 percent of the vote to avoid a runoff. With 124 of 128 precincts reporting in Miami Tuesday night, Regalado had about 78 percent of the vote as he sought a second term as the city's mayor. Commissioner Michael Gongora had 36.46 percent of the vote, Steve Berke had 12.11 percent in his second bid for mayor and Raphael Herman had 0.96 percent. (Published Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013)

    Tomas Regalado was sworn in Friday for his second term as Miami mayor.

    The ceremony took place at Miami City Hall at 3500 Pan American Drive at noon.

    Regalado was elected mayor with about 78 percent of the vote. Challenger Jeff Benjamin had just under 10 percent of the vote, followed by candidates William A. Armbrister, with just above 8 percent, and Tom Baumann, with just above 4 percent.

    Three other candidates did not make it onto the ballot. City Commissioner Francis Suarez pulled out of the race after he announced his wife is expecting the couple's first child. He also referenced recent negative turns in his campaign, including a ballot fraud investigation involving two staffers and insensitive tweets sent by a campaign aide.
