A South Florida man who answered an escort ad on Backpage.com was kidnapped, robbed and killed after he met up with the woman, authorities said.
Three people have been arrested in the murder of 31-year-old Gustavo Cabral, who was shot in the head in the garage of an abandoned Lake Worth house on Dec. 1.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, Koral Ben Shimon, 20, posted the ad that said she was "looking to have an amazing time," and Cabral went to her Super 8 motel room.
When he arrived, two men, Ilmart Christophe and Jefty Joseph, both 20, came out of the bathroom masked and armed, the sheriff's office said.
Cabral, of Coconut Creek, was tied up and was forced to increase the limits on his credit cards and was then driven to banks and forced to take out cash, authorities said. Three men were alter seen entering the empty house before witnesses heard shots fired.
Only two men left the house, witnesses said. Christophe and Joseph were arrested later that day and both blamed the other for the shooting, the sheriff's office said.
Ben Shimon, of Greenacres, was arrested Wednesday. She told investigators Cabral begged for his life and was told he would be killed if he didn't cooperate by the two other suspects, the sheriff's office said.
Cabral was "so scared he could hardly talk," she told investigators.
Ben Shimon said she didn't know that Christophe and Joseph had planned to kill Cabral and said she wasn't there when he was shot, the sheriff's office said.
All three were being held without bond Friday and it was unknown whether they have attorneys.
