Worker Walked Into Path of Dump Truck: BSO

Construction worker dies after struck by truck at Deerfield Beach site

Authorities say a worker who was struck and killed by a dump truck Tuesday in Deerfield Beach walked into the path of the vehicle as it was backing up.

Ricardo Corrales, 53, was working in a construction zone in the 1600 block of E. Hillsboro Boulevard when he was struck by the truck, which was being driven by co-worker Emis Mauricio Martin-Rojas, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.

Martin-Rojas was cleared to back the truck up by a flag operator when he says he felt he hit something and stopped, the BSO said.

The flag operator was guiding the truck when, according to witnesses, Corrales walked into the path of the truck, the BSO said.

Corrales was taken to North Broward Medical Center where he was pronounced dead just after 1 p.m.

BSO Traffic Homicide Unit detectives are continuing a non-criminal investigation, and the Medical Examiner's office will determine the cause of death.
