1 Shot and Killed Overnight in Northeast Miami-Dade: MDPD

Friends and family are mourning the loss of a young man gunned down right outside of his Miami-Dade home late Tuesday, and Miami-Dade Police are still searching for the gunman.

Relatives and friends of 20-year-old Marquise Lynwood Warren say he was a star basketball player who graduated from Miami Beach High School last year. His older brother told NBC 6 that Warren recently tried out for the Palm Beach State College team and that he dreamed of one day playing in the NBA.

"Sports and school, that was his life," remembered family friend, Joy Cooper.

Instead, someone stole that dream from him Tuesday night after police say an unknown gunman fatally shot Warren outside of his own home as he took out the trash around midnight.

Units were called to the house, located at the corner of Northeast 14th Avenue and Northeast 147th Street, after someone called 911 reporting that Warren had been shot in the thigh.

When help arrived, they found Warren suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to Aventura Hospital, but later died as a result of his injuries.

Friends and family are now mourning his loss and looking for answers.

"Why, who, and what reason?" Cooper asks.

Police have not identified a suspect in the shooting and are continuing to investigate.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
