A 1-year-old boy has been airlifted to the hospital after being bitten by a pit bull while playing in his backyard in central Florida.
Sarah Hunter told the Volusia County Sheriff's Office she and her son were playing Friday night outside their home in rural DeLeon Springs when the pit bull bit the boy on his face and head. She said the attack was unprovoked.
The Orlando Sentinel reports the 18-month-old boy was airlifted to the hospital and treated for several cuts near his eye.
Hunter said she had been feeding the homeless dog for about a month and that it often roams the neighborhood.
Volusia County Animal Control officials were unable to locate the dog. They advised neighbors to call if the animal returns so it can be quarantined.
