Police have arrested a driver who's accused of hitting five pedestrians, including two children, in Miami Beach Sunday afternoon.
Matthew Timothy Miller, 29, is facing multiple counts of reckless driving causing serious bodily injury and a charge of driving with a suspended license in the crash.
Officers responded to the scene of the crash at the busy intersection of 18th Street and Meridian Avenue just before 3 p.m.
According to an arrest affidavit, Miller, from Daytona Beach, was driving his black 2012 Mercedes when he drove onto the sidewalk, hitting five pedestrians, a metal trash can and a parking kiosk before striking a tree and coming to a stop.
"When I reached the crash scene, I just did my best to help the old lady prop her head up because she was bleeding pretty badly from the head, there was a lot of injuries, there's still blood out there, witness Jason Terrence said. "I don't know what else to say man, it's just been a hard morning, a hard afternoon."
An officer who responded said Miller appeared "high" and his mannerism was consistent with "a person who is under the influence of alcohol or narcotics," the affidavit said.

When asked if he had taken any medications or drugs, Miller responded "I only took some Percocet," the affidavit said.
All five victims and Miller were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Authorities say the adult victims are in stable condition, but the two infants involved were listed as critical.
An officer requested a sample of Miller's blood but he refused, the affidavit said.
"Based on the observations and the statements given at the time of the crash, it is my opinion as a drug recognition expert, that the defendant was under the influence of a drug and was impaired at the time of the crash and unable to operate a vehicle safely," the affidavit said.
Police said there may be additional charges but only after the toxicology report is completed.
Miller was being held on $17,000 bond Monday, jail records showed. Attorney information wasn't available.
