$2.25 Million Donated to Honor Miami-Dade College President

'Tis the season of giving.

Donors doled out millions of dollars to honor Miami-Dade College President Dr. Eduardo Padrón on this 'Giving Tuesday'. Three organizations surprised the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom with a gift of $2.25 million.

The Badia Spices Inc. donated $1 million to create a scholarship in Padrón's name for deserving students with financial need. Another $1 million was given by the Mitchelle Wolfson Sr Foundation to start the Eduardo J. Padrón Innovation Fund. The Knight Foundation also donated $250,000 to the same fund.

The donations were made on Giving Tuesday, which is a national campaign to fund raise for charities on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

Just last week, President Barack Obama bestowed the highest civilian honor on Dr. Padrón at the White House.
