3 Arrested in Murder of Teen in Homestead

Three young men have been arrested in the death of a teen who was found murdered in Homestead last month.

Jonathan Isaiah Lucas, 18, Kaheem Justin Arbelo, 20, and Christian Raul Colon, 19, are all facing murder charges in the death of 17-year-old Jose Guardado, police said.

Lucas and Arbelo were arrested and booked into Miami-Dade jail Thursday. Colon was arrested in Pasco County on Tuesday, records showed. All three remained behind bars Friday, and it was unknown if they've hired attorneys.

Family members said Guardado's brother found his burned body partially buried in a wooded area near the Homestead Job Corp, a dorm for at-risk teens. Guardado had been dropped off at the center on June 28, and his brother found the body three days later.

Guardado was living and studying at the education and career technical training program to become a mechanic, family members said. Lucas, Arbelo and Colon were also students at the center, the Miami Herald reported.

The teens were part of a group of bullies, sources told the Herald. Classmates had claimed Guardado was bullied at the center.

Miami-Dade Police said the medical examiner determined the cause of death to be trauma and ruled it a homicide, but no other details of how Guardado was killed have been released.

Additional arrests are forthcoming, police said.
