3 Injured When ‘Microburst' Damages Central Florida Pier

Three people suffered minor injuries when strong winds blew an awning off the roof of a Florida pier and caused other damage.

Brevard County Emergency Management Director Kimberly Prosser says a "microburst" swept through the area around Cocoa Beach Pier Thursday afternoon with winds between 50 and 60 miles per hour. Florida Today says the pier has a restaurant and a fishing area.

Pier visitors were evacuated from the structure. The pier's owner, Westgate Resorts, says the pier is closed to the public while officials assess the damage.
