No. 2 - A 17-year-old who tried to save a boy from drowning Monday in Virginia Key Beach was hospitalized and in critical condition.
Paramedics responded to the beach before 5 p.m. as a 25-year-old mother was teaching her 9-year-old son how to swim when they were both whisked away by strong currents. The teen, identified by family and friends as Christian Burgos, saw them struggling and jumped in to help, but he also got caught in the currents.
No. 3 - New laws taking effect Tuesday throughout Florida include an anti-hazing law and an expansion to the texting while driving law, among others.

No. 4 - Democrats on Monday subpoenaed Rudy Giuliani, the president's personal lawyer who was at the heart of Trump's efforts to get Ukraine to investigate political rival Joe Biden's family.
With Congress out of session for observance of the Jewish holidays, Democrats moved aggressively against Giuliani, requesting by Oct. 15 "text messages, phone records and other communications" that they referred to as possible evidence.
No. 5 - Erickson Alvarado's family calls him the most charitable person they know and that hasn't changed in the four months he has spent inside an immigration detention center in South Florida after his Venezuelan passport has expired.
His family says Alvarado, 47, was detained May 2 while helping his pregnant daughter complete a job at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport – now, there is no way to renew it because the U.S. severed diplomatic ties with that country.
