Eight people whose boat started taking on water in the ocean off North Miami Beach were rescued Friday morning, officials said.

The boaters were on the 65-foot vessel Siempre Sonando when it started taking on water about 14 miles east of North Miami Beach shortly after 10 a.m., U.S. Coast Guard officials said.

The Coast Guard received a distress call that the eight people were abandoning ship and crews immediately responded to search for the boaters.

A Coast Guard helicopter crew found the eight people in an inflatable tender, and boat crews arrived to assist them. No one was injured.
