Army Recruiter Gets 12 Years for Having Sex With Teen Girls

A former Army recruiter received a 12-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to federal charges that he had sex with underage girls he met while on the job.

Jose Nieves Jr. apologized in a Fort Lauderdale courtroom as he entered his plea, saying he deserved to be punished.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports that the 30-year-old sergeant assaulted two 17-year-old victims and other young women complained he acted inappropriately around them. He was arrested in May.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of enticing a child to engage in sexual activity. As part of the plea deal, a charge of production of child pornography was dropped. He had enticed one victim to send him nude photos.

Nieves served two tours in Afghanistan and served at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
