Broward Sheriff's Office Goes On an Arrest-a-thon

From massages to marijuana, the BSO took care of a lot of housekeeping recently

From massages to marijuana, the Broward Sheriff's Office took care of a lot of housekeeping recently, when they made 200 arrests in two days.

"We want the criminals to be on their toes," BSO Captain Jim Fondo told CBS4 of the massive sweep.

Some of those criminals included a drug and gun-toting Tamarac man who police found had 15 grand in his house, a couple in north Fort Lauderdale who were selling weed and had a house full of guns (five to be exact), and the ever-popular "massage" wielders.

"Once they get into the massage, they go a little further and get into a prostitution-related act," Fondo said.

Continuing with the unhappy endings, all those arrested were also asked to give a DNA sample, which will be kept on file for use in unsolved crimes.

The multi-agency sweep came just three days after Broward Sheriff Al Lamberti, who recently announced the layoffs of 177 BSO employees, said the recession will not give criminals a free pass.

"We have fewer deputies than we did two years ago, and we may have to make do with fewer next year, but the drug dealers and prostitutes are going to think we've multiplied," Sheriff Lamberti said. "We're not going to let crime go up just because the economy has gone down."
