Convicted Murderer Arrested for Gun Threat at Market: Cops

A convicted murderer and gang member was arrested for entering a Liberty City market with a rifle and threatening those inside the store, City of Miami Police said.

Willie Wilcher, 35, walked into a City Market store at 1274 Northwest 62nd Street on Wednesday wielding a high powered rifle. Wilcher then checked the isles of the market for rival gang members. After threatening the patrons and management in the store, Wilcher exited the market, police said.

After the incident at the market, there were reports of gun shot fire at the Liberty Square housing complex. Once police arrived at the scene, they found a car that matched the tag number of the car in the surveillance video from the City Market incident. Police then towed the car and examined it for fingerprints. The fingerprints lifted were an exact match of those of Wilcher, police said.

Wilcher, who was arrested Friday, was already wanted by Miami-Dade Police for a home invasion.

Wilcher had previously been arrested and convicted for first-degree murder in 1998 and sentenced to 18 years in state prison. He was released in 2014.

Wilcher's bond was set at $50,000. It is not known whether Wilcher has hired an attorney.
